Kirsten Murphy

Student Success Specialist

kmurphy@southsideelementary.org

Hello! My name is Kirsten Murphy. I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but spent most of my adult life in Asheville, NC. I moved to Providence, RI in 2014 and I fell in love with New England, especially the seafood and being so near the ocean. Being from the mid-west, I still can’t believe it!  I am a certified Special Educator by trade, and I am currently working as the Student Success Specialist here at Southside; I work with students individually and in small groups to provide extra support in specific academic areas of need. I've been a teacher and worked with children almost all my life and have two kids of my own, both of whom attend Providence Public schools. I am a passionate advocate for public education, whether it be charter or city school, in that I believe, when done right, it can serve as the great equalizer in an inequitable world. When I’m away from work, I love to spend time with my family and friends, bike, cook, play music, try all the new foods, and walk in the woods with my two dogs, Cricket and Moose. I also love to see live music and I love to travel. I’ve been to many different countries in my life and I even worked as a teacher in Liaocheng, China in 2003/2004 and hope to continue exploring the world with my family as time goes on. I am thrilled to be working here at Southside with such caring and dedicated educators!
