Title I at SouthSide Elementary Charter Public School
SouthSide Elementary is a Title I Schoolwide Program. Title I is the largest federal education program that provides funding to schools to help ensure that all students have equitable access to high-quality instruction and academic support. Funding is based on levels of economic need within the school community and is used to strengthen the entire instructional program.
Purpose of Title I
The primary purpose of Title I is to improve academic achievement for all students. At SouthSide, our Title I program is designed to:
Provide supplemental instruction and support for students who need additional help in reading and/or mathematics.
Close achievement gaps and support students in meeting or exceeding state learning standards.
Focus school resources on meeting the needs of students who may be at risk of not making expected progress.
How Support is Provided
Student progress is monitored throughout the year. If data suggests a student is experiencing difficulty in reading or math, our intervention team works collaboratively to determine the type and amount of support needed. Support may be provided by:
Classroom Teachers
Reading or Math Intervention Teachers
Instructional Specialists
Trained Instructional Paraprofessionals
All support is aligned with classroom instruction and is provided in addition to regular learning time—not in place of it. Student progress is reviewed regularly and instruction is adjusted as needed.
Partnership With Families
Families are essential partners in student success. SouthSide uses Title I funds to:
Provide family learning events and workshops
Share resources to support learning at home
Communicate student progress clearly and consistently
We encourage families to connect with teachers and school leadership at any time with questions or concerns.
If You Have Questions
If you have questions about Title I services or your child’s progress:
Contact your child’s classroom teacher first.
If additional support is needed, contact the Principal.
If concerns remain unresolved, you may contact the SouthSide School Board or the Rhode Island Department of Education.
